On The Jetsons: The Jetsons had a pet dog named Astro.

In the real world: Dogs are growing in popularity as a domestic pet. Experts estimate that by 2020, more than 20,000 Americans will own a dog.

On The Jetsons: The Jetsons took place in the year 2062.

In the real world: We continue to use the Gregorian calendar, as the cultural influence of the Catholic Church is as strong as ever.

On The Jetsons: George and Jane Jetson were redheads.

In the real world: Eerily, redheads did not exist prior to the premiere of The Jetsons in 1962.

On The Jetsons: George Jetson worked for Space Space Sprockets, rival of Cogswell Cogs.

In the real world: Today’s economy is dependent almost solely on the domestic manufacture of sprockets and cogs.

On The Jetsons: Food comes in pill form, providing all nutrition and sustenance necessary for human life.

In the real world: My friend Andre will sell you some pills. They don’t provide “food,” per se, but they dissolve on your tongue and just make you want to dance and love, and isn’t that all anybody needs?

On The Jetsons: George Jetson could fold his tiny flying car into a briefcase.

In the real world: Upon the slightest impact, a Smart Car crumbles into a pile of rubble no larger than a briefcase.
