In the wake of Sunday’s touching finale, Matthew Weiner sits down with The Higgs Weldon to discuss the series controversial ending.

THW: Thanks so much for giving us some of your time, we know you’re giving a lot of interviews right now.

MW: My pleasure.

THW: So, I guess the big question on everyone’s lips is… why didn’t you call the show “Ad Men?”

MW: …what do you mean?

THW: Well, the show’s called “Mad Men,” but it’s about ad men. Shouldn’t you have called it “Ad Men?”

MW: Well, the show IS called “Ad Men.”

THW: No, it’s not.

MW: I, uh, think I know the name of my own show.

THW: …you might want to Google it?

*Matthew Weiner types “Mad Men” into Google*

MW: Oh god. You’re right. We meant to call it…. this whole time the show’s been called “MAD Men?”

THW: Yeah, it–

MW: –doesn’t make any sense, I know.

THW: Because it’s not a show about the men behind Mad Magazine.

MW: Or its sketch-comedy spinoff, Mad TV. You’d call THAT show Mad Men.

THW: Right.

*Matthew Weiner starts hyperventilating*

THW: …are you okay?

MW: No, no I’m not… why didn’t anybody tell me?

THW: Well, let’s move on. In the finale, Joan finally achieves her dream of–

MW: WHY DIDN’T ANYBODY TELL ME?!

*Matthew Weiner throws an Emmy through a plate glass window*

MW: ANSWER ME!!!

THW: I don’t know! Maybe nobody else noticed… maybe they were afraid of hurting you!

MW: WELL I’M HURTING NOW!

THW: I’m sorry! I’m sorry!

MW: RRRRAAAAAUUGGGHHHH!!

THW: So Peggy and Stan finally get… oh god, what are you doing with that Peabody Award?!

MW: I’LL SHOW THEM ALL… SHOW THEM ALL WHO’S TRULY… MAD.

THW: Mr. Weiner, step back… this is being recorded… Mr. Weiner, NO!

*Bludgeoning noises*

*Tape abruptly ends recording*

Thanks to Matthew Weiner for his enlightening interview. We can’t wait to see what he does next!
